It is also an official Language of the United Nations. A lot of trade and business is done between the United States, Europe and the Arabic speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Knowledge of Arabic opens doors to deal with the developing Middle Eastern/North African market and region. As the Middle East and North Africa are also important players in international affairs, Arabic speakers are highly needed to work in several fields like; business and trade, diplomacy, international development, consultancy, translation and interpretation, journalism, academia and many other fields. Besides learning Arabic you have a great cultural experience within a culture so different from your own. Program content Summer Program

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the standardized literary Arabic understood throughout the Arab speaking world. It is a modernized version of Classical Arabic, which is the language from which all Arab dialects get their roots. You are given placement tests on arrival and placed in the level appropriate for your Arabic language proficiency. Within the first two weeks of the Arabic summer course students have five hours a day of Modern Standard Arabic to learn Arabic survival skills. If you already have basic knowledge of MSA you can advance your knowledge by conducting research and reporting in Arabic.  After week two you receive two weeks of class starting Monday morning to Thursday morning, three hours of Arabic language classes a day. In the afternoon you have Moroccan culture classes. The language classes sharpen your oral and written skills. For the Moroccan culture classes you get lectures on Moroccan history, culture, the political system of Morocco, Architecture, Moroccan story telling, the situation of Moroccan women and media.

You are given placement tests on arrival and placed in the level appropriate for your Arabic language proficiency. Students interested in learning Modern Standard Arabic are welcome to enrol in the semester course of Arabic at ILCS. This semester is intended as an introduction to Modern Standard Arabic language and culture, with some exposure to the Moroccan dialect, including the fundamental communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The Arabic  semester  seeks  to develop  the basic  linguistic skills, analytical skills, and cultural and literary knowledge of  the  students,   which will enable  them to appreciate the uniqueness of other cultures and to function  in Arabic-speaking communities around  the world. Advanced Arabic speaking students are provided with classes in Arabic literature, history and development.  Students are given placement tests on arrival and placed in the level appropriate for their Arabic language proficiency.
